The breath is often taken for granted. Every inhale nourishes our cells and every exhale releases toxins. Each organ benefits when conscious breathing techniques are practiced.
At Grounded 1002, we consider breath as our first pillar when it comes to preventative health & wellness. It is our pleasure to encourage our community to consider breath when using their #rockwithcare guasha and/or and #stixandstones Palo Santo.
Breath brings clarity to the mind, reduces stress, and optimizes performance - all important factors to live an #intuitivelifestyle.
So, take a moment to notice and appreciate your breath, for it is the essential element of life.
Message from our founder
Time flies - I can't believe it is already June 4th. Did you know that today is the last full moon of the 2023 Spring season? Rumour has it that at least a third of us tend to sleep worse during the full moon. Studies suggest that this is due to shorter periods of REM sleep, which is essential for dreaming, memory, emotional processing, and healthy brain development. As someone who has recently been struggling with sleep, I reached out to some of the best sleepers in my network for advice. Particularly because my somatic coach regularly reminds me of the impact lack of sleep can have on every aspect of life. In case you're part of the 30% affected by full moons, this newsletter shares their sleep tips with you.
In other exciting news, I'm hosting our very first public workshop today! There is one spot remaining, so I highly recommend signing up to join us, particularly as Full Moons are a great time to go hard on goals (hello... wellness, reduce stress levels, breath better, release tension). We'll provide you with all the tools, music, and thought-provoking insights necessary to make the most of your Guasha and scraping practices. By the end of the workshop, you'll feel more connected to your body.
I'm excited to meet several of you there, and I can't wait to see the positive impact this workshop will have on our community.
Tips for Quality Sleep
Quality sleep is essential for overall health and wellbeing. Lack of sleep can lead to a variety of negative effects on a person’s health, including impaired cognitive function, mood swings, weakened immune system, and increased risk of obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.
To help you achieve better sleep (particularly on the full moon), we’ve gathered five tips from our network. Try incorporating these tips into your bedtime routine to wake up feeling refreshed and energised.
Mira Manek, Author / Entrepreneur / Integrative Health Practitioner
"I have several sleep tips of which a favorite routine is to boil milk with a pinch of saffron, a pinch of nutmeg, with a tiny bit of jaggery or coconut sugar for sweetness. Sip on this an hour before bedtime to help sleep deeper.
It is a South Asian favorite – the power of spices to the rescue."
"My number one sleeping tip would be to avoid blue light before bed. This prevents our hormone melatonin being released. Melatonin is our sleep hormone that helps us sleep. Try to avoid phones and computers 2 hours before bed or put your phone in night mode (which helps block some blue light) or invest in blue light blocking glasses."
Liberty Mills, Model / Grandmother / Integrative Health & Nutrition Coach - Fertility & Hormone Specialist
"I have several lifestyle tips pertaining to sleep including waking up in the summer with the sunrise because it will set your body clock for the evening. However, if that is not possible, take L-theanine 30 minutes before bedtime. It has been shown to relieve stress, improve mood, help getting to sleep and staying asleep. I always travel with mine."
Jonathan Wiseman, Founder & Head Coach of OBF / Investor / Family Man
"Not only is magnesium the mineral of insulin sensitivity, but it also plays a role in improving sleep quality. Taking magnesium before bed helps improve sleep quality, reduce insomnia symptoms, and descrease the time it takes to fall asleep. Another tip I give to clients is the get sunlight first thing in the morning. Exposure to natural light in the morning helps regular your circadian rhythm, making it easier to fall asleep at night and wake up feeling refreshed."
Jasmine Skee, CEO of a Public Company / Advisor / NLP Masters / Meditation Coach
"Maintaining consistency in my routine is key - even on weekends. Also, I don’t have any caffeine after 12:00 noon.”
Enjoy our Into The Night playlist on a full moon, after any hectic day, or to just unwind. Expect soothing instruments and mellow vocals. Create a peaceful atmosphere to relax, rejuvenate, and find your inner calm. This is a good one.
On the final full moon of the spring season, occurring under the sign of Sagittarius, we at Grounded 1002 find it a great opportunity to focus on our goals and embrace the abundance of light in the atmosphere.
Taking cues from the characteristics of this sign, known for their optimism, independence, and love for adventure and freedom, we introspect to determine areas where we need more or less of these traits.
Sagittarius individuals are known for their enthusiasm and eagerness to explore new experiences and ideas, with a great sense of humor. They can also be honest, straightforward, and blunt in their communication."
Reflecting on these characteristics – are there any you need more or less of?
